The other staff heads, +5 armor and +30 health, are much, much more valuable. In general a staff with the right upgrades is going to outperform a sword + focus setup due to stronger modifiers and the ability to attack.
I agree completely. I have always used +10 armor or +60 health staves. However as i'm sure you realise, you can also throw a +30 fort on a henge sword, grab a focus with a nice bonus and +30 health. Then you have the same +60 health you get from a staff, the extra +7 energy, and another bonus or two thrown in to boot.

But I digress. I just want to see Anet finish the job on this sword and other simmilar items to stop their already ridiculously high prices getting even higher, and in turn making them even more desirable than they should be. If it is unavailable to craft, it seems insane that it is still in the game at all.

It has become a status symbol or something like that.
I remember being not much interest on the market for the (old) rockmolder. You could easily pick one up for 5k, there was little demand. Now it's gone, suddenly it is interesting?
Statussymbol if you ask me... Strange how people react to such things...

You complain of people selling it for insane amounts.
Do you complain at people who bought _thousands_ of ectos at the price of 300g each some month ago ? Isn't that the greatest PvE Imbalance ?

No, +2 energy will not make you better that you are. It's definitely a status symbol, like an artifact of "the good old days", but NOT an imbalanced item who need to be removed.

lol this is funny

I am a player who missed out on the HoD sword, do i care? NO there are much better swords out there. I have picked up better rods. Granted it is good for 55 monks, but you will notice that those monks carry rods too, why? cos the sword isn't all it is cracked up to be. Yes i wish i had seized the HoD +5 sword when i could have, but i didn't. If i had 300k to spare i may buy one, i don't. Don't complin because people got a sword that you passed over. There would be no point in putting it back in, no point in removing it from the inventory. If it was put back, it would be droped for another sword later on, if it was removed ultimatly it would shatter player confidence in ANet.

Stop whining that you can't afford the sword and want the whole game changed cos of the way you feel. If that as so mesmer's would be nerfed from complaints by necros(^.^) [i <3 mesmers]

Only practical use I see for the HoD sword is monking or running...and there's no run thats success rate is solely based on whether or not you have the sword. That leaves monking...and if your really suggesting that 20% longer enchantments is the ever so important factor that is the difference between victory and defeat (nolani wand has +5 energy) I think your full of bs because I've never heard of a 12 second healing breeze winning a fight. And if you were truly concerned with being the most perfekt monk...player..whatever that you could possibly be you would shovel out the money, and then I'd cut you down with my PvP Mesmer I made 5 minutes ago just as easy.

Not really. I spent 700k on getting my PvE monk PvP ready. Buying a henge sword instead of one of the green staffs I bought wouldn't have made a major difference. Hell I spent 305k on my negative energy set, just to look pimp.

Most people kust use these as collectos items when they have so much money they dont know what to do with it. i could find much better uses with money than that like giving it to the homless people of Kryta.

I think me saying I would sell the HoD sword if I still had one pretty much shows my view on it's strength. Fact remains however that a HoD sword + focus item was (and is) more desirable then any (energy focused) staff or wand combination out there. If you want energy then the HoD + focus is the best way to go. Sure, you could go for a +60 health staff but that is offcourse an entirely different issue. Fact remains that the HoD sword made an entire segment of wands and staves inferior. The use of insightfull upgrades took a blow because of the HoD sword. You can argue about whether having your energy pool maximized is that important but all of that does not do away with the fact that there is nothing out there that does this as well the HoD sword.

About the sword being taken out to make the crafters more standarized. Could be, though I seem to recall that the update that took out the HoD sword only changed the HoD crafter. I can be mistaken but I think the other crafters (like the droknar crafter) were only changed later. I could be mistaken there though.

I don't see why people are minimizing the strengths of the HoD sword. Was it unbalancing? Yes, it was. There is no need to downplay that. The sword is objectively better then the wand and staff equivalents available. Is the balance upsetting? No, it is not. Would I use one if I had one? No, I would not.

Hell yea the HoD sword is overpowered!
I can't think of all the times I've been in Tombs and my whole team gets killed by iway, except for the lone monk hero(he's a jukebox hero, hes got stars in his eyes!), who suddenly whips out excaliber the hod sword, and totally kills every last one of them.
It's uber-omg-wtf-pwn-godly!

Seriously, It was great for farming, back in the day, because protective bond uses up your energy with every hit. Since the -50 grim cesta doesn't offer up much energy, the extra +5 energy sword(with a nice 20% enchanting), would allow you to maintain protective bond with a higher degree of comfort, while helping you maintain your enchantments. These days it's more a hindrance if you really wanted to UW solo, since to kill the nightmares you kinda need a wand now. If I go UW there's usually at least 3 of us, because doing the quests is fun and I'm not into hardcore farming anymore.

Monking in pvp, you can run builds that can use the hod utility, like a hod/anhk(20/20 healing prayers) woh build. The extra +5 helps a little, but in general, any +5 wand would be almost completely identical, and better because to help attack the other team you aren't forced into melee, and the wand will actually do some dmg, as compared to the -1 you get with the hod sword.

Actually I only use the HODS in PVP. When I first started out I had a Me/Ra char that I realized early on in the Ascalon arena had an advantage wielding something They Couldn't Attack With.

Instead of Wanding a target that I was attacking (for piddly damage), I could cast and remain undetected for that extra 5 seconds or so.....

So now I typically use it on my Mes/Nec in PVP as it does not give away my target, and I don't run off into wand range and hit somebody once, letting me control my movements better. And if I am playing that way....there is no substitute for the HODS.

Is it overpowering? Nah. But I can see why some people are jealous....it is always a little bit frustrating to miss out on a limited time offer. C'est La Vie....

Just because it's not unbalanced doesn't mean the HoD sword is not very good. If I had the money to buy one I would buy one, and use it - but I don't even really have the money for a 20% enchants to put on a fiery flame spitter. With a -5 energy sword that already is a pretty decent weapon swap on its own, maintaining 4 pips with a 10 energy sway and keeping your focus benefits. You can still have a -1 pip focus for an extra swap if you really need it. But you can still be excellent without the HoD sword, because it is in no way overpowering.

i love my hod sword, because. it is semi-rare. it is pretty lookin.. (i love short swords ) and my monk looks pretty cute with it!

if someone is in desperate need for +5 energy constant, but doesn't have the money for a HoD sword, i suggest you get the +5 fire wand outside of fort ranik? i believe.. (correct me if im wrong) and use that.. thats what i did until i saved up some gold for my sword ^^

nater i get the impression that you feel like you have been done an injustice.
You feel as though you missed out on a nice [lets be honests its not brill] sword and you feel upset that you can't have +5 energy, and as you can't have it nobody should be able to. thats childish, people siezed the moment and bought it, others decided not too. I'm am someone who was around dusing the +5 HoD time, yet i did not buy one, as i said before i would like one BUT for +5 im not shelling out 300k. live with it, don't try and ruin it for others.
